Art School Girlfriend Releases New Song “Doing Laps”
London-based music producer Polly Mackey, aka Art School Girlfriend released the third single called “Doing Laps” from her upcoming third studio album “Lean In” on February 4, 2026.
The album is set to be released on March 11, 2026 via Fiction Records.
The track was written and produced by Art School Girlfriend, featuring Marika Hackman on guitar.
The accompanying music video was directed by Zak Watson.
Art School Girlfriend said of the song, “My song about hating the internet is out now. It explores the fatigue and exhaustion I sometimes feel being an artist and human in the age of platform capitalism and the commodification of not just art but artistic practice - a feeling that seems universal right now. It’s not all doom and gloom though, the silver linings appeared in keeping only a half eye on outcome and the whole of my being in the process. Who am I doing it for? Am I doing it for you?”- The new album comprises 10 tracks, which she recorded and self-produced in her own East London studio.
It is her first album in three years, following the 2023 album “Soft Landing”.
She said of the album, “Last year, I decided that I would stop releasing music altogether. I continued going to my studio and making music purely for the way it allows my brain access a different plane and way of being; for the process over the outcome. That decision unlocked a period of intense creativity like I've never experienced before; I got obsessed and very existential. This is the sound of me going deeper, being filled with questions I don't have the answer to, but maybe figuring out what the point of life is - afforded by a studio of one's own and those around me.” - source : Apple Music
