Metric Announces New Album “Romanticize The Dive”, Shares New Song “Victim Of Luck”

Canadian indie-rock band Metric, consisting of Emily Haines (vocals/keyboards), James Shaw (guitar), Joules Scott-Key (drums) and Joshua Winstead (bass), has announced their upcoming tenth studio album “Romanticize The Dive” will be released on April 4, 2026.
It is their first album since the 2022 and 2023's double album series “Formentera” and “Formentera II”.
From the album, the band released the first single called “Victim Of Luck” on February 3, 2026.
The track was written by Gavin Brown, Liam O'Neil, James Shaw, and Emily Haines. Produced by Gavin Brown, Liam O'Neil, and Jimmy Shaw.
The accompanying music video was directed by Fezz & Chess.
The band lead singer Emily Haines said of the song, “The song 'Victim Of Luck' and really the entire album is about the romance of a less than perfect life. It's about dropping the mask of self-consciousness and vanity. It was a long journey for me to get out of my own way and I wanted this song to be a rallying cry for that, better late than never. You can be as much a victim of good luck as bad. So when we started out yes we were broke and we were playing to ten people and there was nothing for us to fall back on but we refused to give up, and it's not as though we're all superstar billionaires now, but that was never what we were after. It turns out the grind is the thing you wouldn't trade and the bonds you made can't be faked. What we wanted is what we have and we're not victims of anything. We dedicated our lives to each other and it's the best feeling in the world.”- The album comprises 11 tracks, the band recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York with producers Gavin Brown, Jimmy Shaw and Liam O'Neil.
Emily Haines told NME about the album, “For this record, we put back the OG crew that made 'Fantasies' so we could really look back at what our process was back then. When we were looking for direction, we would go back and listen to our own work. It makes sense on your 10th album to ask, 'What would Metric do?' I don't know! Let's remember. What is the essence of the sound and the emotion of what we are? We were so proud of 'Formentera' I and II, but that was really so exploratory. That's cool and we can do that for the rest of our lives but Jimmy said, 'Let's just have one more shot at the essence of who we are.'” -
