  • MIKA Releases New Album “Hyperlove”

  • British singer-songwriter MIKA released his seventh studio album “Hyperlove” on January 23, 2026 via Republic Records.

This marks his first English language album since the 2019 album “My Name Is Michael Holbrook”.
Also, it is the first album in tree years, following the 2023 album “Que ta tête fleurisse toujours”.
The album comprises 15 tracks, which he recorded with Australian electronic music band Empire of the Sun's member and producer Nick Littlemore in Los Angeles, New York, Vienna, Italy, and London.
Nick Littlemore also produced his 2012 album “The Origin of Love”.
In additionally, American filmmaker John Waters as a guest narrator across the album.

MIKA said of the album, “This is two years worth of writing, mostly, almost 95% of it at the piano alone. And then it's this music went on this extraordinary journey. And it was completely by accident, but Nick Littlemore, who from Empire of the Sun, who I had previously worked with on 'Origin of love', heard these demos, and he decided that he was going to get his hands dirty and jump straight into making the record and producing it. And then he transformed these songs. I had one intention. I made a promise to myself that I would make an album that screamed freedom. That was artistically brave.”
  • He continued, “And honest, this record is made for you guys. It's made for the people just like you who have followed what I've done over this 20 year journey. And I just wanted you to know that I wanted to come back for you guys with something that was exciting and a little bit brave, and there's a lot of layers to it. Don't be afraid to pick it apart and to look into every single detail, because every single detail is there for a reason. It's eccentric. And it's made me very happy.”

MIKA told Rolling Stone about working with producer Nick Littlemore, “Nick has a more psychedelic brain than me, probably because of all of the psychedelics he's consumed – it's a spiritual thing for him. And he was like, 'You started these songs organically, so every single sound on this record has to be made by a vintage analogue synth.' There's not a single 'in the box' sound on the entire album.”

  • MIKA explained some tracks for the album.

    “Modern Times”
“The song for me is like a treadmill, and that treadmill is life, life in all its good and all its bad. As time goes on and life gets more confusing and sometimes overwhelming, we look further than the world around us, into the world of mythology, desire and dreams. Modern Times is a cathedral-like cry, for faith and spirit, resisting the grind and weight of life and the passing of time.”

    “Excuses for Love”
“I wrote 'Excuses For Love' at the piano with all of these interesting chord changes. I had this phrase “excuses for love, you and I won't make excuses for love” and I just wanted to build an entire song out of that.”

    “Immortal”
“Do you all know who this song is about? Do you know who this song is about? You don't. This song is about my dog, Melachi. I decided I wanted to write one song for my dog, and it's this. 16 years by my side and still perfect. It was about time she had her own song.”
