JP Cooper Teams Up with Gabrielle for New Song “Sad Song”

British singer-songwriter JP Cooper joined forces with British singer-songwriter Gabrielle to release a new song “Sad Song” on January 16, 2026.
This marks the first collaboration between JP Cooper and Gabrielle.
The song is the fifth single off of his upcoming third studio album “Just A Few Folk”, which is set to be released on February 13, 2026.
It was written by Jamie Hartman, JP Cooper, and Neil Ormandy. Produced by Cam Blackwood.
The accompanying music video was filmed at Asylum Chapel in Peckham.
JP Cooper said of the song, “Sad Song is essentially a breakup song. It's inspired by that space between hurt and acceptance. Between a bitter taste and good wishes. But at the heart of the song, there's still love. There's still hope that something good comes out of it all. It looks at the situation from a place of. If the story has to end, then at least let it leave us better. Huge thanks to Gabrielle for elevating this song. I hope it resonates with you.”- He continued, “Once the song was written, I kept feeling like it needed another voice - a touch of feminine energy to balance the conversation. I've always wanted to work with the artists I grew up listening to, the voices that shaped the soundtrack of my early years. Gabrielle's 'Dreams' was always on the radio when I was younger, and her voice has this understated beauty that can break your heart and comfort you at the same time. There's so much nostalgia in her tone, and you know I love me some of that.”
He added, “Reaching out to her felt like a shot in the dark, but she said yes - it's a real honour to have her join me on this song. A full-circle moment for me. Huge thanks to Gabrielle for elevating this track in such a soulful, effortless way.” -
The new album comprises 14 tracks, featuring a guest appearance from Gabrielle. It is his first album in four years, following the 2022 album “She”.
JP Cooper said of the album title, “So the name of the album 'Just A Few Folk'. It came from the song on the album, which I wrote at home. Really simple, few chords. The second verse is the same as the first. It was written more like a praise break. Since I did the gospel moments as part of the album 'She'. I wanted to incorporate a bit of that on this record. The idea behind the title of it is basically not needing to satisfy everybody. I think for a long time in my life, I've been a people pleaser. I guess in some ways, feeling like finding myself in the commercial world musically. It played into that, and I kind of struggled with figuring out, actually what is the most important part of me that I'm trying to get across to the world, or what is the message? It's been my few folk, my close circle, that has made this record. And I hope it creates a home for maybe those few folk that don't need me to be everything. Or maybe if they've not even found my music yet. Hopefully, even if it's just a few folk, I would much rather it go deeper than far and wide.” - source : Apple Music
