Charlotte Day Wilson Premieres New Song “Lean” featuring Saya Gray on BBC Radio 1

Toronto-based singer-songwriter Charlotte Day Wilson premiered a new song “Lean” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song follows the 2025 singles “Selfish” and “High Road”.
On the track, she teamed up with Canadian singer-songwriter Saya Gray.
The song will appear on her upcoming EP, which is set to be released on February 6, 2026.
It was written by Charlotte Day Wilson, Jack Emblem, and Saya Gray. Produced by Charlotte Day Wilson.
Charlotte Day Wilson told Jack Saunders about the song, “I would say the one thing you need to know about this song and about music making in general is you got to have good people around you who are going to tell you when your ideas are good and don't need to be tinkered with. That's what I'll say. Because Saya Gray, who's on this song with me, she did that for me.”- She continued, “I've known Saya for years. She's always been someone I really admire and look up to creatively and just as a person as well and as a friend. And this song basically like, I had started it as a demo, and I'd send her, like a batch of songs, be like, 'I'm working on some stuff, check it out.' And this one really stood out to her. And I kind of thought it was like, really in a demo stage. And she was like, 'You don't really need to do much to this. Don't change where it's at. It's so good.' So that really helped me. Especially, like, as I'm self producing everything. I'm playing all the instruments you hear on this song, except for the bass. Actually, as the bass comes along, but it's hard. Sometimes you get in your own head a little bit and you feel like, it couldn't possibly be done after, like, I only worked on this for 20 minutes, how could this be done. So she kind of came along and just validated that it was, it didn't need to be tinkered with too much, and then having her hop on the vocals, just like, brought it to the next level. So, I'm really grateful to have her as a collaborator.”

She added, “Here we are building towards an EP that comes out February sixth. And it's a collection of music that I'm honestly so proud of. This era of creation for me was very much about going back to my roots and how I started making music, which was mainly by myself. Saya served as this like sounding board for me throughout the whole process, to basically tell me to not let other people touch my production. And really honing into my own craft is something that I really wanted to go back to. And this project, feels very like, I don't know how else to put it, other than to say it just feels very true.” - source : BBC Radio 1
