Skye Newman Wins BBC Radio 1's Sound Of 2026
BBC Radio 1's Sound Of 2026 announced that London-based singer-songwriter Skye Newman is the winner, following a vote by more than 170 music industry experts, including Elton John, Dua Lipa, JADE, Olivia Dean, YUNGBLUD, and Sam Smith.
This time, the acts nominated were Alessi Rose, Chloe Qisha, Florence Road, Geese, Jim Legxacy, kwn, Royel Otis, Sasha Keable, Skye Newman, and sombr.
The Sound Of list started in 2003 with the aim to showcase the most exciting rising stars in music.
Previous winners include Chappell Roan, The Last Dinner Party, FLO, PinkPantheress, Adele, Sam Smith, HAIM, and Celeste.
2025 proved to be a breakthrough year for Skye Newman. Her debut song “Hairdresser” went viral and became one of three UK Top 20 singles released during the year.- Skye Newman said, “I'm still in shock that I've won Radio 1's Sound of 2026! So many artists that I've listened to over the years have been honoured with the award and now me! To think that Sound Of started the year I was born, 2003 and now I'm a winner! I'm so grateful and wouldn't be where I am without my people and the BBC supporting me on my journey. Thank you!”
