Mumford & Sons Releases New Song “The Banjo Song”

British folk rock band Mumford & Sons, consisting of Marcus Mumford (lead vocals/guitar), Ted Dwane (vocals/bass) and Ben Lovett (vocals/keyboards), released the third single called “The Banjo Song” from their upcoming sixth studio album “Prizefighter” on January 9, 2026, following “Rubber Band Man” with Irish singer-songwriter Hozier and the title track.
The album is set to be released on February 20, 2026. The original release date was February 13, but it was pushed back by one week.
The band co-write the song with American rock band The National's Aaron Dessner and American singer-songwriter Jon Bellion. Produced by Aaron Dessner and Mumford & Sons.
The band said of the song, “That was 'The Banjo Song' of our next album, 'Prizefighter'. We can’t wait for you guys to hear it properly in [its] full sonic glory.”- The new album comprises 14 tracks, featuring collaborations with Chris Stapleton, Gigi Perez, Gracie Abrams, and Hozier.
The band recorded it with Aaron Dessner at Long Pond Studios in New York.
The band bassist Ted Dwane told PEOPLE about working with Aaron Dessner, “Dessner, he just feels like a real ally. We've obviously been a fan of The National for a long time, and we met him and worked with him as we were preparing to make our third record, Wilder Mind.”
He added, “When the flywheel starts turning and there's creative energy - the machine was warm, the engine was running and there was just a lot of music around. It felt very seamless and the very obvious, very natural thing to do was just to get in and start making a record with him.” -
