The Twilight Sad Announces New Album “IT'S THE LONG GOODBYE”, Premieres New Song “DESIGNED TO LOSE” on BBC Radio 6

Scottish post-punk band The Twilight Sad, consisting of James Graham (vocals) and Andy MacFarlane (guitar), has announced their upcoming sixth studio album “IT'S THE LONG GOODBYE” will be released on March 27, 2026 via Rock Action Records.
It is their first album in seven years, following the 2019 album “It Won/t Be Like This All the Time”.
The album reflects on early-onset frontotemporal dementia suffered by the band lead singer James Graham's mother, her death, and his own mental health struggles.
The songs were written during his mother's illness after British rock band The Cure's 2016 tour.
The album comprises 10 tracks, featuring The Cure's lead singer and guitarist Robert Smith, Sometime Arab Strap's David Jeans on drums, and Mogwai live member Alex Mackay on bass, produced by Andy MacFarlane and Andy Savours.
From the album, the band premiered a new song “DESIGNED TO LOSE” on BBC Radio 6 Music with Huw Stephens.
The song is the second single off of the album, following “WAITING FOR THE PHONE CALL” released last October.
It was written by Andy Macfarlane and James Alexander Graham. Produced by Andy Macfarlane and Andy Savours.- James Graham said of the album, “It had to contain every element of emotion I was feeling. To know that I'm saying things that connect with other people, that's such a powerful thing. I want to be a relatable person that talks about things that can happen and give an opportunity for people to go, well, you're not alone. I want people to be able to listen to this record and hear that it comes from a place of raw emotion. The album is an opportunity to share my experience and move forward with my life.”

He continued, “In the past I've used a lot of metaphors within my lyrics. With this, there's not as much. The record is heavily influenced by my mental health, grief and loss, and the need to be strong in positions where you're not feeling it. It's a very human story, I think – this is just my version of it. I feel that everybody goes through something like this. Everybody loses somebody. Everybody questions life.”
