  • Dry Cleaning Releases New Song “Joy”

  • London-based post-punk band Dry Cleaning, consisting of Nick Buxton (drums), Tom Dowse (guitar), Lewis Maynard (bass) and Florence Shaw (vocals), released a new song “Joy” on January 5, 2026.

The song is the fourth and final pre-release single from their upcoming third studio album “Secret Love”, which is out this Friday (January 9th) via 4AD.
Originally, the lyrics came from advertisements in Virginia Tech University's History of Food and Drink archive, the track serves as a compassionate coach to those in desperate need of positivity and kindness.
The track was written by Florence Shaw, Lewis Maynard, Nick Buxton, and Tom Dowse. Produced by Cate LeBon.

The band lead singer Florence Shaw said of the song, “Recently I've felt pessimistic about the world. The influence of what they call 'the manosphere,' the genocide against Palestinians continuing despite huge protests, the rise of the racist Reform party in the UK, the promotion of AI in art and music. I wanted to try and stoke my drive to stay positive and spread softness and compassion. The wishes in the song have a naive quality.”
  • The song is accompanied by a music visualiser directed by Cuan Roche and choreographed by BULLYACHE.

The band guitarist Tom Dowse said of the video, “We were looking to get away from the longer form, narrative and impressionistic confines of a typical music video and give ourselves, friends and fans a way to respond to the music in a more expressive way that feels personal.”

He added, “We've seen the vastly different ways people behave at our shows - pogoing singalongs, full wig-outs, lone figures inhabiting the sound in their own private universe. With that in mind, we asked Bullyache to design a set of moves to each song on Secret Love as a starting point for ourselves and others to mimic or interpret them in a fun and idiosyncratic way, regardless of technical ability.”

  • The new album comprises 11 tracks, which the band recorded with producer Cate LeBon at Black Box in the Loire Valley. It is their first album in four years, following the 2022 album “Stumpwork”.

Producer Cate LeBon said of the album, “Being in a room with them and hearing that vitality and life force that exists between them all, it's such a unique expression.”
