James Marriott Releases New Song “California Rain”
Brighton-based singer-songwriter James Marriott released his brand new song “California Rain” on January 2, 2026.
The song is his first music since his sophomore album “Don't Tell The Dog”, which was released last June and reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart.
He wrote the song during his North American tour and completed in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The track is accompanied by the Herbie Elton-directed music video.
He first performed the song during his US tour at House of Blues Cambridge Room in Dallas last October.
At that time, he told the crowd about the song, “So this is the song that was written in Idaho firstly, and then we practiced it in Seattle, and I wrote the lyrics in California about this country and about these shows.”- James Marriott said of the song, “'California Rain' is a song written on tour about culture shocks and touring the United States as an Englishman. Its lyrics take semblance from missing your home life/people whilst self-doubt and imposter syndrome captures you whilst away. In the spirit of not knowing what you have until you don't have it, 'the rain won't stop me now' takes the thing that British people complain about the most and transforms it into something hopeful and to be missed.”

James Marriott embarks on James Marriott Tour 2026 in Australia. The tour kicks off at Astor Theatre in Perth on march 24, 2026 and will conclude at Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane on April 1, 2026.
