Ruti Drops New Music Video for “Lakeside” from New EP “Maybe I Got It Wrong”

London-based singer songwriter Ruti dropped a new music video for “Song Lakeside” on December 30, 2025.
The song is featured on their latest EP “Maybe I Got It Wrong”, which was released last month.
The video was directed by Freddie Cattaneo and filmed in their home town West Thurrock, Essex.
The song and video were inspired by the Lakeside Shopping Centre.
It was written by Jo Caleb, Kalim Patel, and Ruth Olajugbagbe. Produced by Jo Caleb and Khushi.
Ruti told BRICKS Magazine about the song, “The song 'Lakeside' is dedicated to some of my really close friends from my hometown. We don't work together, most of them don't even work in the same industry, but they've been with me since the beginning, always supporting me.”
They continued, “I feel like being around mountains and lakes, and the big vast countryside, I feel like that is where my music should be set.”
They added, “The actual shopping centre is beside a grim lake, but the one we found was so quiet and peaceful. It was actually hell to get to, but once we got down there, it was gorgeous.”- The new EP comprises 7 tracks, produced by Tom McFarland, tony esterly, Amanda Cy, Aby iO, Jo Caleb, Khushi, GG, and PomPom.
Ruti recorded the EP in London, Los Angeles, and Stockholm.
They told BRICKS Magazine about the EP, “The songs on this EP are not necessarily all cohesive or from the same period of my life, but I feel like they show how I'm powerful myself, and with the help of my collaborative team, how I've stepped closer to the artist I want to be. These songs are me discovering myself, and that's exciting for me, because it feels like I've gained a lot of self assurance.”
They shared on social media, “It really feels like things are coming together in this old artist journey!!! I've poured my heart and soul into this project (as per usual). I feel like something has fallen into place and I have an enormous sense of pride. My ambition, that I thought was dead at the beginning of this year, has returned. I'm unbelievably grateful for where I am in this exact moment in my life and for every person that played a part in this project come together.” -
Ruti explained some tracks for the EP.
“Maybe I Got It Wrong” via FIZZY
“If I remember rightly, the first lyric was maybe I got it wrong. I think we started with the chorus. I wrote the song with Tom McFarland (of Jungle), and it was our first session together, so we were literally just jamming. The funny thing is, it really is a mixture of daydream and memory because it's not really based on anything that had happened to me around the time I wrote it. However, it almost feels like it was a premonition of emotions and situations I've gotten myself into since writing that song. Which has actually happened a handful of times, with other songs I've written! Maybe I get the sense that I'm heading into something, and I write as if I'm already there. So, when I'm in those situations, I have a song with me, and I'm not alone. If that even makes sense, LOL.”
“Turn The Key”
“No this is not AI, the deer actually did run across at perfect time.“
“If I Could Choose It Would Be You”
“I don't know how to talk about this song without sounding like a whiny stubborn child. Which I guess is the point of this song to kind of get those raw emotions out. Basically, I haven't been super lucky in love over the past few years. It always feels like I don't have a choice in the matter of who I might end up with. At some point, I had some very strong feelings about a certain person and I was so frustrated because it was highly likely to never happen for us. If it wasn't down to circumstances or fate or timing or whatever and just a simple decision of who I chose to be with everything would just be a lot easier. But that is not how things work in reality, obviously. So this is just me kind of throwing a tantrum, I guess.”
