  • Lauren Minear Releases New Album “Boxing Day”

  • New York-based singer-songwriter Lauren Minear released her third studio album “Boxing Day” on October 17, 2025.

It is her first album in over a year since the 2024 album “Chasing Daylight”.
The album comprises 11 tracks, recorded in New York and London, as well as during a week-long creative retreat near Woodstock, NY, with producer Dan Weeks; early sessions were shaped by guitarist Dan Barracuda.
Over the course of writing nearly 100 songs, Minear distilled the project down to 11 tracks that met her three guiding goals: vulnerable lyricism, elevated production, and a fully immersive listening experience.

Lauren Minear said of the album, “I always write my way through intense feelings. But I realized that the anger and shame I was experiencing went deeper than just this one conflict. These songs allowed me to confront patterns of repressed anger and codependency, and to liberate myself from them in the process.”
  • She continued, “For a time, I swallowed my feelings and desires, building a facade around them so convincing that you'd never know they were there. But, the thing about feelings and desires is that they never die. They just intensify until your walls crack or cave in. I've excavated mine, one stone at a time.”

She added, “This album feels like it was twenty years in the making. I hope you'll take it on a walk or a drive and listen to all eleven songs in order.”

  • Lauren Minear explained some tracks for the album.

    “Bullshit” via BabyStep Magazine
“The moment itself was very simple. I am lucky to have a long-term relationship with a therapist who knows me well, and who knows that I, like many, struggle to express anger effectively. We were talking about that struggle one day and she suggested I try writing a song about it. I wrote “Bullshit” first thing the next morning. I think the experience reinforced my perspective as a songwriter, which is that showing up is half the battle. You can’t really wait for inspiration to strike - you just have to show up every day and make something. Every now and then, a great idea pops out, and that was my experience with this song. It felt like it was inside of me waiting to emerge, and I just happened to open the right door at the right time.”

    “Bruise”
“We wrote ‘Bruise’ on Day 4 of our Woodstock sessions, bundled up in coats in a freezing guest house. The environment and the song were well suited, because we ended up with something that sounds fragile. I think the cold added some urgency. It was painful to write and, for a long time, painful to sing. I’m working on that.”

    “Lightweight”
“Someone said to me once that every time you point the finger at someone else, you have to point two at yourself, and that really stuck. I wanted to explore not only problematic relationships, but how I’ve enabled and repeated them throughout my life. I’ve always been interested in understanding myself better in order to grow. It doesn’t help me to continuously blame others for their bad behavior. This is someone who lied to me and still owes me money, but I knew it was happening for longer than I admitted to myself at the time. I think I stayed so long because it reminded me of toxic relationships from my past and made me question myself. I won’t do that again.”

    “Giving Blood”
“I'm kidding, but I do have a theory that making music both heals you and connects you to people who need the same healing. This is "Giving Blood" from my new album, Boxing Day, and it's about setting boundaries.”
