The Wood Releases New EP “Cold Fire”
Liverpool-based duo The Wood, consisting of Alex Evans (vocals) and Steve Powell (guitar/bass), released a new EP “Cold Fire” on October 31, 2025 via Riverdream Records.
It is their first project in a year since the 2024 debut album “Days”.
The EP comprises 4 tracks featuring Scottish singer-songwriter Brooke Combe: three original songs and a cover of John Fitch & Associates' “Romantic Attitude”. Produced by Steve Powell.
Creating music that is difficult to categorise yet somehow sounds familiar, The Wood cleverly mesh soul, rock and folk in songs filled with purpose and an innate sense of release.
The duo said of the EP, “We're so proud of this record and we hope you enjoy it as much as we've loved making it.”- “Cold Fire”, featuring Brooke Combe, is built around a conclave of gospel harmonies and a sultry, simmering groove, blending gospel, soul, jazz, and rock.
“Romantic Attitude” is a funk groove, featuring Steve Powell's spectacular, psyched-up six-stringed wig-outs.
On “Hold On”, Steve Powell's minimal production and Phil Melville's interwoven layers of slide dobro swoop around Alex Evans' scored soul vocal.
“Wait for the Sun” is all chugging rock guitars, blissed-out harmonies, and an Alex Evans vocal steeped in his trademark passionate energy. -
