Olly Murs & The Ordinary Boys Team Up for New Christmas Song “Christmas Starts Tonight”
British singer-songwriter Olly Murs teamed up with British pop band The Ordinary Boys to release a new Christmas song “Christmas Starts Tonight” on December 1, 2025.
The music video for the song was released on December 16, 2025. Directed by Amy Becker Burnett.
Initially, the song was a demo of “Run This Town”, which is featured on Olly Murs' eighth studio album “Knees Up” released last month.
He later reworked it with The Ordinary Boys' lead singer Samuel Preston, into a festive track.
It was written by Mark Taylor, Olly Murs, and Samuel Preston. Produced by Mark Taylor and Samuel Preston.
Olly Murs said of the song, “'Christmas Starts Tonight' has had the maddest journey... It began as a demo of 'Run This Town' that never quite found its moment. Fast forward to 2025 and it ends up on my new album, I perform it on Strictly, and suddenly I’m hearing it as a Christmas song. So I sent Sam a message and somehow we’ve turned it into a full-on festive anthem and properly reconnected in the process. It feels fresh, it feels fun, and honestly... I couldn’t be more excited to now have a fully fledged Christmas tune out with The Ordinary Boys.”- Samuel Preston added, “One of the first songs I wrote after The Ordinary Boys was ‘Heart Skips A Beat’. It somehow went on to become a colossal Number One for Olly who, to my amazement, turned out not only to be a gifted singer, performer and songwriter, but also an admirer of The Ordinary Boys. We’ve had great fun recording together over the years, and ‘Christmas Starts Tonight’ is no exception. Born from the bones of 'Run This Town', a tune that had been languishing in a dusty folder on Olly’s phone for fifteen years, it has finally been granted a new life as a Yuletide anthem. A small seasonal miracle, really.”
