  • David Byrne Performs at NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

  • Scottish-American singer-songwriter David Byrne appeared on NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert to perform “Everybody Laughs”, “Don't Be Like That”, “(Nothing But) Flowers”, and “Life During Wartime”.

This marks his musical guest debut on Tiny Desk Concert.
He performed with Mauro Refosco on percussion, Ray Suen on guitar, Kely Pinheiro on bass, Daniel Mintseris on keyboard, Stephane San Juan on drums, Tim Keiper on percussion, Yuri Yamashita on percussion, Tendayi Kuumba on background vocals, Sasha Rivero on background vocals, Hannah Straney on background vocals, Sean Donovan on background vocals, and Jordan Dobson on saxophone.
“Everybody Laughs” and “Don't Be Like That” are featured on his latest album “Who Is The Sky?”, which was released back in September.
On the album, he recorded with New York City-based musical ensemble Ghost Train Orchestra.
The album comprises 12 tracks, featuring guest appearances from American rock band Paramore's Hayley Williams. On “Everybody Laughs”, American singer-songwriter St. Vincent performed as background vocals.
  • “(Nothing But) Flowers” and “Life During Wartime” are songs from his former band Talking Heads.
“(Nothing But) Flowers” was released from Talking Heads final album “Naked” in 1988.
“Life During Wartime” was released as the first single from their 1979 album “Fear of Music”.

Recently, David Byrne told Rolling Stone about performing Talking Heads songs, “I can mix and match and have it adapt to the sound that I'm doing at the moment without completely destroying the integrity of the older songs. But I'm also aware that there's a real trap. If you do too much of the older material, you become a legacy act that comes out and plays the old hits. You cash in really quick, but then you've dug yourself a hole.”
