  • MAY-A Announces Debut Album “Goodbye (If You Call That Gone)”, Shares New Song “Claws”

  • Australian singer-songwriter MAY-A has announced her upcoming debut album “Goodbye (If You Call That Gone)” will be released on February 20, 2026.

From the album, she released a new song “Claws” on November 28, 2025.
The song is the third single off, following “[REDACTED]” and “(I'm here for the) GIRLS”.
It was written by Maya Cumming and Roberto De Sa. Produced by Robby De Sa, Andrew Wells and Chloe Dadd.
The accompanying music video was directed by MAY-A herself.

MAY-A said of the song, “This song is about being under-estimated and under-appreciated. Feeling betrayed in general, feeling like justice is never served. It's about getting your bite back after feeling wronged.”

She said of the video, “I'm so excited to bring you into the world of the album. The first of a multi-video series directed by myself. Thank you to everybody who helped make this video come to life, this is for every bitch who needs to bite back.”
  • She told Rolling Stone about the song, “'Claws' was definitely me processing a lot of anger. It feels special because I wrote it from such a place of anger and mistreatment and betrayal and just looking back and being so mad at things that had happened to me.”

She added, “We kind of kicked off the themes of the album, and thematically and sonically it's stepping into more of a harder space. I think that it's the perfect sort of bridging gap between something like 'Girls' and the rest of the album, it gets slowly heavier as you as you go along.”

  • The debut album comprises 11 tracks, which she recorded with American record producer Carlos De La Garza, American guitarist Chris Greatti and American drummer Ilan Rubin.

MAY-A said of the album, “Goodbye (If You Call that Gone), is a mirror of the healing process in all its complexity, an amalgamation of loss, betrayal, anger, resentment, and, most importantly, the quiet triumph of moving through what once felt impossible. When people talk about change, they often skip over the uncomfortable, messy parts. This record doesn't. It dives into the raw, unfiltered emotions that come with transformation, amplifying the darkness that in turn, makes the light mean something.”

She continued, “This album wasn't easy to write, there were definitely points where giving up felt easier than pushing through, but I needed the catharsis, it is a representation of a time in my life and the emotions I was dealing with. I wanted to take listeners on a journey. We've all had someone who's made us feel small, stripped us of who we thought we were, until we barely recognised ourselves. This record is about finding your way back from that.”
