Goo Goo Dolls Performs at NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

American rock band Goo Goo Dolls, consisting of John Rzeznik (guitar/vocals) and Robby Takac (bass/vocals), appeared on NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert to perform “Slide”, “Feel the Silence”, “Not Goodbye (Close My Eyes)”, and “Iris”.
This marks their debut on Tiny Desk Concert as a musical guest.
The band frontman John Rzeznik said, “I'm like, was Vampire Weekend behind us or something? You're all clapping. They just showed up and everybody starts clapping really hard. Thank you. That was really generous of you guys. That's awesome. Cool. I'm a little nervous because we could all be on a first name basis. It's the other night we played some festival in Kentucky and there was like a hundred thousand people there and it was like playing to no one, because they're so far away and you can't, but like this is intimidating.”
“Slide” was released as the first single from their sixth studio album “Dizzy Up the Girl” in 1998. The song reached No. 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100.- “Feel the Silence” was featured on their eighth studio album “Let Love In” in 2006.
John Rzeznik said of the song, “This song is called “Feel the Silence” and I think it was on what was this on? let not on that one. I know, but it was on let love in. So, if you don't know that one, go check it out. There was some good stuff. We worked guy named Glen Ballard who is probably one of the finest music producers who he worked with with Quincy Jones and all these incredible people and he co-wrote some insanely huge hits and he was great because he made you feel like no matter what you were doing it was important. So that was nice to fell that way. And then it's a little shocking when you get back into the real world and everybody's like you know but that was fun doing it and so let's do this.” -
“Not Goodbye (Close My Eyes)” was released from their latest EP “Summer Anthem” back in August. The EP comprises 7 tracks, produced by Grant Michaels, Gregg Wattenberg, and John Rzeznik.
John Rzeznik said of the song, “This is a new song. We had we put out I don't know if it's an EP. We just threw out seven songs. I don't even know how the music business works anymore. All I know is we don't make as much money as we used to. But we had seven good songs and we just threw them out there and called summer anthem. And there's a part two to it, but I haven't finished it yet. I got to come up with a good story, too. I got to make some crap up. Anyway this song is is called 'Not Goodbye.'”
“Iris” was released from the 1998 film “City of Angels” soundtrack. Also, it was featured on their sixth studio album “Dizzy Up the Girl”, which was released in 1998.
The song has sold over 14.2 million copies in the UK and US, earning Diamond certification in the US.
John Rzeznik said before playing the song, “You know what? Everyone seems to sing along with this song. Just think I mean I know you guys it's like this is like public radio. It's really cool. But you know if you want to sing you can.”
