Austra Releases New Song “Fallen Cloud”
Canadian singer-songwriter Katie Stelmanis' electronic music project Austra will release her fifth studio album “Chin up Buttercup” this Friday (November 14) via Domino Recording.
The album is her first release in five years since the 2020 album ”Hirudin”.
From the album, she unveiled a new song “Fallen Cloud” on November 12, 2025.
The song is the third and final pre-release single. It was written and produced by Austra and Kieran Adams.
The accompanying music video was directed by M. Blash.
Austra said of the song, “Although I didn't realize until long after this song was finished, Fallen Cloud is a song that takes place during the bargaining stage of grief. It begins with a desperate attempt to change an undesired romantic outcome, but after spending a bit too much time imagining different scenarios, I become enveloped by the dream-like fantasy of an alternate life. This song is meant to make you feel like you're floating in a sweet cloud of delusion.”- The new album comprises 10 tracks, which she worked with co-producer Kieran Adams. The album title is a reference to heartbreak and the societal pressure to fake your way through sadness.
The album was inspired by the moment when her long-term partner woke up one day, said she wasn't happy, and left her in January 2020.
Austra said, “I was completely blindsided... the person I loved woke up one day, told me she wasn't happy, and I basically never saw her again.” -
