  • LAUREL Releases New Song “Bitter”

  • London-based alt-pop singer-songwriter LAUREL released a new song “Bitter” on October 22, 2025.

The song is the second single since the 2024 sophomore album “PALPITATIONS”, following “Fucking You To Death” released back in May.
It was written and produced by Laurel Arnell-Cullen, with production by Rob McCurdy.
The music video was dropped on November 4, 2025. It is her first solo made video.

LAUREL said of the song, “This song is about my ex who died a few years ago. Since he died I always wondered what I would have done or said differently, hoping I could change the chain of events that would follow. He came to me in a dream once and told me there was nothing I could have done, that it was always going to happen, it was his destiny and yet I would continue to have persistent nightmares for a year or two after about it. We were toxic for each other and unfortunately the energy left between us didn't end on a happy note and I suppose I wished I could have said goodbye and forgiven him before it was too late. I've learned since that many people feel this unfinishedness about people that pass no matter your last conversation and I guess thats just a part of life. I was young when this happened and I feel for him but now that I'm a little older I also feel for me, suicide is a complex thing that touches everyone involved in quite a particular way.”
  • She continued, “This song hits differently for me. I suppose its the most vulnerable I've gotten in a while. I wrote it last autumn right before my life blew up into pieces & I had to start again. It came one night when I was at home and about to go to bed, I wasn't really trying to write a song like this but it almost forced its way out of me and I remember wondering what I would do with it coz at the time I was making dance wave indie pop. Nonetheless it felt special and truthful and I wondered if it was time to go back to my Dogviolet days of producing music in my bedroom and not caring what people thought.”

  • She added, “I went on tour a couple of weeks after writing it & realised that most of the people in the audience were there to see Dogviolet and it reignited my belief that I could make these slow sad ethereal yet heartbreaking ballads coz someone out there did get it, you got it! And I fell in love with my roots again. A year has passed and I've since written and produced a full length in my minuteur studio in my treehouse in la, reminiscing on broken hearts, gloomy english skies, Scottish tartan & my years growing up in the British suburbs where I felt so gravely misunderstood. Thats always why I wanted to be a singer, I guess I have just always been looking for my people. You guys are my people, and I want to thank you for coming with me through these eras of exploration.”
