  • Henry Moodie Premieres Two New Songs “people pleaser” & “cigarette” on BBC Radio 1

  • British singer-songwriter Henry Moodie premiered two new songs “people pleaser” and “cigarette” on BBC Radio 1's Future Artists with Sian Eleri.

Both songs will appear on his upcoming debut album “mood swings”, which is out this Friday (October 24th).
Ahead of the album releasing, Henry Moodie spoke to Sian Eleri about two songs.
“people pleaser” was written by Henry Moodie, Sam de Jong, and Victoria Ryann Zaro. Produced by Sam de Jong.

Henry Moodie told Sian Eleri about the song, “This one is truly where songwriting basically felt like therapy for me. Because I remember approaching this song saying to my collaborators, like 'I'm a massive people pleaser, it's the biggest part of who I am, and I can't work out how to process this.' So we sat down, we just wrote this song. And it kind of gave me a deeper understanding of myself. So if anyone's listening, that is a massive people pleaser. This one is for you guys. This is called 'people pleaser'. I hope you like it.”
  • On “cigarette”, he co-wrote the song with American singer-songwriter Julia Michaels, alongside producers Connor McDonough and Riley McDonough.

He said of the song, “There's a song called cigarette on there, which just was about a situation that, like actually happened ages ago. It was about a relationship when I was like 16, and I'm 21 now. But I'd never really written about it, because there was, it was such a heightened, emotional thing. And I worked with one of my favorite songwriters on this song, Julia Michaels, whom I have been a fan of my whole life. And I felt like if I was going to bring in this song, this concept, she would be the perfect person to help me get the song.”

  • The album comprises 14 tracks, including two songs from the debut EP “in all of my lonely nights”, and one song from the second EP “good old days”.
Also, as co-writer, British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran joined in the album.

Henry Moodie told Sian Eleri about the album, “I feel like I remember I was sort of writing all these songs without really a direction, just about different parts of my life. And then sort of like at the start of the year, I realized that all these songs were very all over the place, about completely different things, different concepts. And I was really struggling. I was like, 'How am I going to make an album cohesive when everything's about completely different things?' And then I thought really deeply about it. I was like, mood swings. Makes so much sense, because my surname is moody the album, each song is a completely different mood that completely reflects, like, what I felt like my early 20s have felt like it's been chaotic all over the place. My late teens, my early 20s. So it kind of like perfectly came together. Once I figured that out, I then wrote the second half of the album, and that's when I had it in mind.”
