Howling Bells Announces New Album “Strange Life”, Shares New Song “Heavy Lifting”
London-based Australian indie rock band Howling Bells, consisting of Juanita Stein (vocals), Joel Stein (guitar) and Glenn Moule (drums), has announced their upcoming fourth studio album “Strange Life” will be released on February 13, 2026.
This marks their first album in 12 years since the 2014 album “Heartstrings”.
From the album, the band released a new song “Heavy Lifting” on October 23, 2025.
The song is the second single off of the album, following “Unbroken” released last month.
It was written by Glenn Moule, Joel Stein, and Juanita Stein. Produced by Ben Hillier.
The accompanying music video was directed by Orlando Cubitt.
The band lead singer Juanita Stein said of the song, “'Heavy Lifting' is a hazy and grunge-fuelled declaration. Like anyone who's worked at the thing they love tirelessly, you build up great resilience. The callouses on your hands, the muscles you've strengthened, the swagger in your stride. 'Heavy Lifting' is a song about the thousands of miles you walk to acquire this kind of confidence; this is not anything that can be stripped away from you.”- The new album comprises 11 tracks, which the band recorded with producer Ben Hillier at his Agricultural Audio Studios.
The band said of the album, “Our first new album since Heartstrings, 12 years ago. To say we are elated to share new music with you doesn't begin to describe it. A decade in between then and now has given us a new world, a new way of communicating, a new social currency. It's fair to say that life for any one of us in the year 2025, is a strange one. Not least, the musical landscape in which we stepped into as a band 20 years ago, which has shifted beyond recognition.”
They added, “However, the one constant that remains, is the way in which we create music. The bond we share as humans and musicians, is the same. Our fierce drive and desire to connect musically has never dwindled, only dimmed momentarily.” -
