  • Ruel Releases New Album “Kicking My Feet”

  • Los Angeles-based Australian singer-songwriter Ruel released his sophomore album “Kicking My Feet” on October 17, 2025 via Recess Records.

This marks his first album in two years since the 2023 debut album “4th Wall”. Also, it is the follow-up to the 2024 EP “Adaptations”.
The album comprises 11 tracks, produced by Ammo, Kenneth Blume, Julian Bunetta, Leroy Clampitt, Elias Danielsen, Humble the Great, M-Phazes, Taka Perry, Mark Schick, Dan Wilson, and Matt Zara.
He wrote over 200 songs for the album and finally chose just 11 songs.

Ruel said of the album, “I knew I wanted to push myself on this new album, but it wasn't until I had to finalise the track list that I realised I'd actually made over 200 songs for Kicking My Feet.”

He continued, “With the lack of restrictions I gave myself, I still feel like I had the clearest vision I’ve ever had going into making a project. And there was a lot of certainty on how I wanted it to be perceived, the kind of artist that I want to be perceived as, and the things I wanted to say.”
  • He told Sian Eleri of BBC Radio 1 about working with several producers on the album, “It was really special. I think all of them, apart from a couple I worked with maybe once before, when I was a kid, just doing random sessions in LA. But being able to do multiple weeks with these people and fully get into the weeds and trying to make a whole project with each of them was super special, and they're also so inspiring, and they all work so differently as well.”

He continued, “The main, I guess, challenge for it all was trying to make it feel cohesive when they've got, like, six, seven producers on the record, but it gave me, like, a chance to kind of step up and feel like, 'Okay, I've got to be the one to make this feel cohesive myself.' And that was a fun challenge for me, but it made me find a lot more certainty in what I wanted and kind of sonically, where I wanted to go for the record.”

  • Ruel explained some tracks for the album.

    “Wild Guess”
Ruel: “I think that one was super rewarding, because it was again that one came together really quickly. I just found it very satisfying to listen to this, because I feel like I hadn't written a song like that, like a reasonably up tempo song that felt like it had. I don't know, a bit more depth. But out of all the new ones, there's a song I probably the one I did with Kenny, just called 'destroyer'.”

Co-star on the music video, Mary Beth Barone: “I was so excited to play the ex love interest of a 22 year old in a music video. It’s just an honour to be thought of in that way as a woman in my 30s. I think it’s a step forward for filmmaking, storytelling, and culture in general. And the song being about a breakup, it just felt right… My heart goes out to anyone who has to work with their ex, especially in an on set environment. Ruel is a total professional and very kind so maybe the youth really will save us.”

    “I Can Die Now”
“I love the juxtaposition between the title and the theme and energy of the song - once you listen to it, you'll know what I mean. On top of that, ICDN is the first taste of what my new album might be like...”
