  • MotoGP Australia: Marc Marquez Takes Pole Position at Phillip Island

  • The Round 16 on MotoGP 2017, Australian Grand Prix Qualifying ran at Phillip Island on October 21.

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) took pole position for the Australian MotoGP ahead of Motegi polesitter Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech3) and Maverick Vinales (Movistar Yamaha).
Maverick Vinales was second place behind Marc Marquez by 0.333s, but his teammate Valentino Ross (Movistar Yamaha) moved up to Q1 from Q2 and took 7th place in third row.
Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar) heads up the second row as one of the key protagonists of the 2015 Island Battle. Jack Miller (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) is back on the grid for the first time since breaking his leg in training three weeks ago, making the second row start.
Japan GP winner Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) went into qualifying on the back of a nasty fall in FP4, but he couldn't even finish inside the top 10 and will start at 11th tomorrow.

    Marc Marquez (P1):
“I’m really happy for this pole position, not just about pole but because we’re in an important moment. I did a really good laptime alone which is important in Australia, and my pace is good. But the most important thing is to finish on the podium – and in front of Dovi.
Dovi starts from eleventh, but at Motegi he started ninth and by Lap 4 he was already behind me! We’ll try to find just our rhythm and finish the race – that’s the most important. It’s critical – at four o’clock the temperature starts to drop.”
