  • World Surf League: Roxy Pro and Quiksilver Pro France, Carissa Moore claims back-to-back wins and Gabriel Medina takes first victory of 2017

  • Quiksilver Pro and Roxy Pro France Finals day, Gabriel Medina (BRA) and Carissa Moore (HAW) claimed their first victory of 2017 season, respectively, in excellent three-to-five foot waves.

    In Quiksilver Pro Final, Gabriel Medina (BRA) battled against Sebastian Zietz (HAW). Gabriel Medina defeated John John Florence (HAW), who is current No.1 on Jeep Leaderboard, and Joel Parkinson (AUS) in Quarterfinal and Semifinals. Meanwhile, Sebastian Zietz eliminated Miguel Pupo (BRA) and Kolohe Andino (USA).
    Gabriel Medina earned 8.17 and 7.83 points on middle of the game, but Sebastian Zietz struggled to receive high scores. Medina continued to build and pushed his total up to 16 points to claim a third win in France.

    Quiksilver Pro France winner Gabriel Medina said;
    “I am so stoked. It feels so good to win again. I have been working so hard before this event. This is a really special place for me. I am just stoked. I had a great event here with the good waves we got. I am really happy right now. I am not thinking about a World Title or ranking -- I just want to do good at every event. I promised myself that I had to win one event this year and I finally got it!
    It feels amazing to be back here in France. I love this kind of beach break. I have waves like this at home, so I feel really comfortable here. France has always been nice to me. This is my third win here and it’s amazing. I feel good about the World Title race. Now it is Portugal. Everyone starts from zero, so we will do this all over again, and hopefully, I can do good there.”

    Runner-up Sebastian Zietz said;
    “The conditions were just amazing at this event. It was a great time. I am super happy with this result. I had to come up against Gabriel (Medina). That side of the draw was super gnarly -- Gabriel and John (Florence) are probably the heaviest guys on Tour right now -- so to come up against Gabriel, I knew it was going to be tough. Kind of bummed that I did not put up more of a fight, didn’t get over a 5, but it’s alright because it was fun and I got a trophy.”

    In Roxy Pro France Final, Carissa Moore (HAW) and Lakey Peterson (USA) competeted each other. Carissa Moore defeated current No.1 on the Jeep Leaderboard Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), and Lakey Peterson eliminated reigning World Champ Tyler Wright (AUS) in Semifinal. For both competitors, it was the second time to advance to the Final in this season.
    Carissa Moore showcased 9.20 points ride and led the game. Lakey Peterson gained 6.23 and 8.27 points with a total of 14.50 and chased Carissa Moore.
    But Carissa Moore earned 7.70 points on last wave and took the victory following last year.

    Roxy Pro France winner Carissa Moore said;
    “It has been a crazy year and just to come out with a win is amazing. This one means so much because it has been a tricky year. I’ve been going through some growth personally and it was just nice to see it all fall into place. I was just really happy this event. I had such a great support crew here and at home. The vibes were really good this week.
    I’m so stoked, we couldn’t ask for better conditions here and it’s been a long time since I won an event. Coming up against Lakey (Peterson), I was a little nervous but I knew I just had to let everything go and just have fun. All the girls have really raised the level each event. I am grateful to be here and I am really inspired by my peers. Life can’t get much better.”

    Runner-up Lakey Peterson said;
    “It is great to be back up here on the podium. Gold Coast seems like ages ago, so it is nice to know I’ve still got it. It has been a really fun year for me. It has been a lot of ups-and-downs. The highs have been really high and the lows have been pretty low. I am glad to be up here once again and hopefully next time I’ll be taking home the bigger trophy. I was super stoked to finish in such beautiful conditions. Thank you everyone and all the locals in Hossegor for giving us waves for this event. I really felt blessed to be out there.”
