  • World Surf League: Quiksilver Pro France Runs Round 3-4 at La Gravière, John John Florence Seizes Jeep Leaders' Jersey

  • World Surf League Men's Championship, Quiksilver Pro France ran Round 3-4 at La Gravière in five-to-six foot good waves.

    Before the start Round 3, Round 2 remaining four Heats launched and Michel Bourez (PYF), Jeremy Flores (FRA), Caio Ibelli (BRA) and Bede Durbidge (AUS) advanced to Round 3.
    Surprise, wildcard Marc Lacomare (FRA) defeated current ranking No.1 Jordy Smith (ZAF) in Heat 6 of Round 3. Followded by, Marc Lacomare won Caio Ibelli (BRA) and Sebastian Zietz (HAW) in Round 4, and advanced to Quarterfinals.
    After the Rounds, Marc Lacomare said;
    “It feels amazing, we have good waves this year and all my friends and family here on the beach it does not get much better than this. I think it’s an advantage to surf at home, especially for me. I’m not on the CT, not going for a world title, I’m just trying to surf well and be smart.”
    Jordy Smith said;
    “It’s France, it changes really quickly, for example the wave that we were surfing out front is pretty much non-existent anymore. I got two okay waves and kind of had a rhythm, Marc (Lacomare) sat on that little left. With the tide dropping, I thought I should head out to the point of the sandbank, got a good score but it wasn’t enough.”

    John John Florence (HAW) earned 9.73 & 9.43 points with Air 360 degrees in Round 3 and took down Ethan Ewing (AUS). In next Round, John John Florence defeated 3-time World Champ Mick Fanning (AUS) and 2012’s World Champ Joel Parkinson (AUS). At the point, he moved up to the 1st place on the Jeep Leaderboard and will wear yellow jersey in Quarterfinals.
    John John Florence said;
    “It wasn’t what I planned to do out there but it just kind of happened, especially after that first left I just tried to do airs on every wave. I carried out my heat the same way I would if Jordy would have made it or not, just focused on myself and having fun!”
