  • MotoGP Aragon: Marc Marquez Wins, Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo Complete The Podium

  • The Round 14 on MotoGP 2017, Aragon Grand Prix witnessed Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) took back-to-back victories, retaking sole ownership of the MotoGP points lead. The 2nd place was his teammate Dani Pedrosa (Dani Pedrosa) and Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team) took the first time podium of 2017 season.

Pole position start, Maverick Vinales (Movistar Yamaha) finished 4th place and Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha) took 5th place despite breaking his right leg.
Beginning of the race, Jorge Lorenzo got a good start ahead of Valentino Rossi, Marc Marquez, Maverick Vinales and Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team). Afterwards, Maverick Vinales moved down to 5th and four riders led the race.
Marc Marquez passed Valentino Rossi into 2nd on 12 laps to go. And on 6 laps to go, he caught Jorge Lorenzo and took 1st off.
Dani Pedrosa pushed Maverick Vinales from 6th and passed Valentino Rossi for 3rd on 6 laps to go. Addition, he overtook Jorge Lorenzo on Final lap and moved up to 2nd. Finally, Maverick Vinales passed his teammate and moved up to fourth on 2 laps left.
Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) took 7th place with a disappointing run, which leaves him 16 points back from Marquez with four rounds to run, while Vinales is 28 points behind the lead in third place.

    Marc Marquez (P1):
“It’s important to go to Japan with this small advantage. In the beginning I didn’t feel good, but I tried. I was trying to understand what was going on, but then the feeling never came back. At one point I said I would push, then trying to overtake Valentino I went wide again and lost all the distance – when you do that you stress everything more. When I caught Lorenzo again, I said it was time to push and keep my pace because I saw Dani coming faster and faster. On one hand was that the feeling wasn’t good, but then I wanted to win my home race. I took a lot of risk but I started with the mentality to win and it finished well today. It’s important because in the Championship we’re leading by 16 and 28 points, and it’s better to have that advantage than not. But it’s more important that since Montmelo, in all conditions, we’ve been on the podium everywhere except Silverstone. We’ll try to keep our focus for the next races. Motegi in the past was a circuit where I was struggling a bit but last year I felt really good. We’ll see this year, now it’s a question mark. In Austria I expected to struggle, then here I was struggling more than I expected despite the victory. You can’t make a mistake or take a zero, but then you also have to take the risk. If I didn’t take the risk, we would have finished third.”

    Dani Pedrosa (P2):
“I think we have to be happy because overall we had a good weekend. We were there all weekend and that’s really positive – maybe the worst thing was qualifying but apart from that we worked very well and this year we were very competitive. My start when I got to the first corner, I couldn’t make any improvements and the guys around the outside were in front. I got cut there and was behind Maverick. And I chose the medium rear because I was more comfortable with that but I knew I had to manage it a bit. I was trying to control the gas, and I thought Maverick would be the same. I didn’t know how the race would develop – I tried to pass Maverick but he was fast in a straight line and into the corners. He wasn’t making mistakes until I forced it, then I could start recovering and see that my pace was much faster. I was on the limit with the front a bit but we know the hard was too hard, so we had to manage it. But it was positive, it’s always good when you pass other riders. It was close with Valentino – too close – but I’m very happy. I can’t judge what he saw, at the beginning he didn’t see me but once you’re next to someone...We were next to each other at 300km/h. But fortunately I had the speed to keep going out the slipstream and get out of that sandwich! I’m looking at the performance by weekend, our goal was to be on the podium and fight for the victory here.”

    Jorge Lorenzo (P3):
“I prefer this podium to Jerez, because we are getting closer to the victory – but then it’s a pity to lead for so long and be so close to the win! But we’re progressing and that’s the important thing, especially from my side. The team is giving me little details that make my life easier and we’re progressing quickly. Aragon wasn’t the best for our bike, but Motegi will be. There we can try again to fight for the victory. This time the pity was that we couldn’t choose the medium or hard tyre because we couldn’t generate the same grip. We knew that in the last seven or ten laps we would struggle and we did, it was difficult to stay in the 49s and stay on the pace on those guys. I was controlling the throttle and saving the tyre. I tried my best to keep Dani close, but it was a good podium and the victory is very close!”
