Foreigner Premieres New Version for “I Want to Know What Love Is” featuring Shriners Hospitals Kids Choir
- English-American rock band Foreigner re-recorded their smash hit “I Want to Know What Love Is” along with Shriners Hospitals Kids Choir.
The music video for the new version was premiered on December 14, 2018. The song will help support the network of 22 medical centers.
“There is a spiritual undertone to ‘I Want to Know What Love Is,’” guitarist Mick Jones said in a statement. “And when you apply the lyrics to a cause like Shriners Hospitals for Children, it brings a whole new meaning to the song.”
“Foreigner has been involved with Shriners Hospitals for 10 years,” frontman Kelly Hansen said, “and we’ve been looking for a way to make a more meaningful impact. The lyrics of this song really speak to the qualities we’ve observed in the children here at Shriners Hospitals. The kids show this amazing resilience and happiness that really makes one think how powerful love is.”
- The original version was released in November 1984 as the lead single from their fifth album "Agent Provocateur".
The song reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles chart, as well as is the group's biggest hit to date.
Mariah Carey, Wynonna Judd, Tina Arena and New Jersey Mass Choir covered the song.
Last July, bassist Jeff Pilson said that Foreigner has no plans to record a new studio album, but will continue to only release new songs periodically.
Foreigner will embark on The Cold As Ice Tour in Canada in February and March. After that, the band will launch Foreigner: The Hits on Tour at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts in Brookville on march 21, 2019.
