Austin-based singer-songwriter Sydney Wright released a long-awaited debut album “Seiche” on November 9th.
The album was preceded by "You Can Stay", "Seiche", "Tip", "Time of Night" and "Underwater".
She has worked with producers Stefano Vieni and Alex Ponce for the album.
The album comprises of 11-track, in addition to contemporary pop sound, featuring R&B sound, like "Tool", "Dragonskin" and "Wait for the Wave".
She raised fund for the album with Indiegogo of crowdfunding website. Originally, she was supposed to release the album in September. But she was involved in a terrible car accident in the summer, the album release was delayed.
“I probably shouldn’t have jumped back in so early, but it was so much fun,” Sydney Wright said. “I was tired of cancelling shows. I needed the normal moments – doing the things I did before my life changed a lot. In that same way, I’m kind of releasing this album this year in defiance. Maybe I should wait until the new year to push it, but I’ve decided, ‘No, it’s coming out this year!’ So here we are.”- She started to write the songs for the album in 2006 at the age of 17. The album was named from the fourth track “Seiche”, which is a French word which means "to sway back and forth".
The album title tune “Seiche” was written in 2012, “Seiche is about hearing myself,” she said. “It's an anthem of transcendence. Seiche is a French word that means ‘to sway back and forth’. Hydrologists use it to define surfing waves on a lake. They occur as a result of a violent atmospheric change or seismic activity that causes the water to slosh back and forth to regain equilibrium. I had no idea when I wrote it that this idea would be so useful to a recovery like I'm experiencing now.
