  • Noah Cyrus Premieres New Video for “Mad at You” featuring Gallant

  • Back in September, American actress and singer-songwriter Noah Cyrus released her debut EP “Good Cry”.

The EP was preceded by the single “Mad at You”, a collaboration with American singer-songwriter Gallant.
Both artists shared a new music video for “Mad At You” on November 12th. The video was premiered exclusively on Billboard.
The home-movie-style video was directed by Samm McAlear and Dom Stills.
Noah Cyrus said of the song:
“The day I recorded this song and the inspiration behind 'Mad at You' was a real experience. I was just going through a hard time in a relationship that I was in for a really, really long time. And this was only a year into our two-year relationship. And so it was just one of those bad days, and I heard this song, and we had discussed breaking up a couple times, and it was like, one of us was about to break. You could just kind of feel it. And that was the inspiration behind this record. And I remember whenever I was singing it, I felt so open and free singing the chorus, because it’s so true. When you love somebody as much as your significant other, it’s hard to stay mad at them and realize when someone’s doing you wrong. Not saying he was, but no matter who’s doing who wrong, it’s easy to let that go when you have an excessive love for somebody and an unconditional amount of love for somebody. I have a hard time of not letting people walk all over me and stuff. And that didn’t happen, but that’s kind of the basis of where Mad at You is coming from, where it was just having this unconditional love for somebody, no matter how big they fuck up and no matter what.”

    She explained recording process:
“I remember the exact setting and everything. I was in Nightbird Studios. It was 4 AM and I still lived with my parents, and my dad and I were home alone, and it was the first time I’d been home alone with my dad since I’d had a car and all of this stuff. And my newfound freedom, I was 17 turning 18. Or it was the middle of last year. And so I was like, 'Wait, am I allowed to leave without telling Dad?' Because I don’t have to tell my mom, but my dad’s been gone in Nashville shooting a show, so he hasn’t been around this year for me being able to do this stuff. So I technically snuck out to the studio, because I was like, 'Oh, my god, my dad.' He’s afraid of everything. He just thinks the whole world is out to get me, so he would freak out if he knew I left the house at 2 AM. I was like, 'Oh my god, my dad’s gonna kill me.' I go to the studio. I didn’t channel anger, but it felt like the same thing. It was something just in the pit of my chest that was just so connected to what I was saying because it was so true. It’s a song where, when I was singing it, it was almost like I could feel it surround the whole room and go out and wide, and it made me feel powerful when I was singing that record. And it always made me feel powerful.”
