Los Angeles-based soul band The Internet released a new album “Hive Mind” on July 20, 2018. It is their first album in three years since their Grammy-nominated album "Ego Death".
The album comprises of 13-track and was preceded by three singles “Roll (Burbank Funk)”, “La Di Da” and “Come Over”. Especialy, a music video for "Come Over" was served as lead singer Syd's directorial debut.
The band appeared on Apple Beats 1, where they explained each track of the album.
The band member Matt Martians said of the album title in an interview with Sway In The Morning;
“You know, when people are together they have a collective mindset. And I think when we’re together we all have a common goal, and we move in the same direction.” Added Lacy: “I think it’s just sharpened. If Ego Death was a pencil … I’d say this pencil’s really sharp. We’re gonna draw nice.”- 5C3EImbYThw
The Internet was formed in 2011 by Odd Future members Syd and Matt Martians, currently in addition to both, the band consists of Patrick Paige II, Christopher Smith, and Steve Lacy.
The band debuted with a first album "Purple Naked Ladies" in 2011. The second album "Feel Good" was released in 2013.
The band released the third album "Ego Death", which was nomnated for Best Urban Contemporary Album at Grammy Awards in 2016, then originalameber Tay Walker left the band. And the band's members each focused on releasing individual solo projects.
The band will appear on Afropunk Fest Brooklyn 2018 at Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn on August 25, 2018. The festival features The Internet, Erykah Badu, Tyler, The Creator, Miguel and Janelle Monáe, among others.
