Kamasi Washington Premieres New Music Video for “Street Fighter Mas”
American jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington unveiled a new music video for “Street Fighter Mas” directed by AG Rojas.
On June 22nd, Kamasi Washington releases his sixth album "Heaven and Earth" following 2017's "Harmony of Difference". The song appears on the album.
The video features cameos by Los Angeles musician BattleCat and Street Fighter pros Gootecks and Combofiend, who plays Washington's adversary in the final fight.
"Heaven and Earth" comprises of 16-track and is double album.
Director AG Rojas said of the video;
"I love inhabiting Kamasi's world, and 'Street Fighter Mas' was an opportunity to take a left turn and explore the surreal qualities of that world.
When Kamasi told me the background of the song, how Street Fighter was a safe space for him—it took me back to the supermarket down the street from my childhood home where my brother and I would try and get in as many games before our mother was finished shopping. It was a true labor of love for everyone involved, coming from a desire to interpret the cinematic qualities of the track into something equally unpredictable, familiar, absurd and ultimately triumphant."- Kamasi Washington will perform at Wilderness Festival 2018 at Cornbury Park in Oxfordshire between August 2nd and 5th. The festival features guest appearnces from Nile Rodgers & Chic, Bastille, Justice, Jon Hopkins and Baxter Dury, among others.
He will take place a North American Tour from October 20th through to November 16th.
