New York City-based synth-pop duo 88 Palms released their debut EP “Love Safari” on May 25, 2018 via streaming music services.
The EP was preceded by two singles "Bright Lights" and "Hollywood Son".
“Love Safari” comprises 6-track, blend with Jazz, Soul, Funk, Disco and synth-pop sound.
The duo recorded the EP at Midnight Sun Studios in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Caito Sanchez (percussion) , Jim Orso (bass), Tyler Pope (bass) on bass, and Nick Roseboro (horns) supported for the EP.
88 Palms was formed in 2014, consisting of Ria Bouttier (vocals) and Morgan Wiley (keyboards).
The duo showcases a wide range of influences from Jazz, Soul, Funk, Boogie, Blues, Techno, House, Disco, Electronica to Psych, resulting in a sultry, synth-pop fueled beachside dance sound. The band has been playing live in New York City since 2017.
In 2018, Jim Orso on drums and Caito Sanchez on bass joined in the live lineup.- Especially, Ria Bouttier said that her music was influenced from '70s sound.
"I’ve been really obsessed lately with the height of the disco era, that level of style and music. I don’t know if it’s been matched since. My dad was a disco DJ in the ’70s in Mexico so I was raised on a lot of that and he has pretty hilarious stories about John Travolta and Bob Dylan partying down there. People like Grace Jones, Donna Summer, Cher, Bianca Jagger, during that era were just absolutely slaying this glamorous avant garde look. I also love what various producers and songwriters were doing with all of this new technology that was emerging at the time and becoming more readily available, particularly with modular synths becoming more accessible. MIDI appears around this time, polyphonic synths, the Minimoog was huge. That blew popular music wide open in a totally new way that people had never heard before.
