  • Jack Johnson and Stephen Colbert Perform “Sleep Through the Static” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

  • American singer-songwriter Jack Johnson appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where he performed "Big Sur" and “Sleep Through the Static”.

Stephen Colbert joined in “Sleep Through the Static” as vocals. This marked the second time in less than a week that Colbert performed alongside the musical guest. Last week he played with David Byrne on TV.
"Big Sur" is included on his seventh studio album "All the Light Above It Too", which was released in September 2017.
The song was written for Jack Johnson's wife Kim, "driving away from all those things that can load up on your mind and weigh heavy on you. Big Sur is about escaping all of that. In the song, I refer to the lines of the road driving up — but it's also the lines of society that confine us. Big Sur is one of those places for me where you can find freedom," he told CNN.
“Sleep Through the Static” was released from his third studio album of the same name as the third single in 2007. The song was made to protest the Iraq War.
