Donate to support families affected by the crisis in Ukraine ➔ David Byrne Premieres New Song “This Is That”
Scottish-American musician and the founder of the American new wave band Talking Heads, David Byrne premiered a new song “This Is That”.
The track is included on his upcoming solo album "American Utopia", which is set to be released on March 6, 2018. It was written by David Byrne and Daniel Lopatin.
The album is his first LP in six years, and is one part of a larger multimedia project entitled "Reasons to Be Cheerful", which aims to give reasons for being happy and optimistic in spite of political strife and environmental problems.
From the album, the lead single "Everybody's Coming to My House" was released on January 8th.
About the new song, he told Rolling Stone;
"I'm comfortable with that partly because the lyrics are so very, very far away from what you would hear in a normal pop song. I mean, with a lot of artists I just go, 'You've gotta write about something other than your boyfriend and your girlfriend! The world is a big place. You're not 18 anymore – you can do this!'"-
