American R&B singer-songwriter Solána Imani Rowe, aka SZA appeared on Saturday Night Live, where she performed her latest songs “The Weekend” and “Love Galore”.
This marks the debut appearance for SZA on SNL. This time, American actor James Franco hosted the program.
Both songs are included on her debut studio album "Ctrl", which was released on June 9, 2017. The album reached number 3 on the US Billboard 200.
She performed “The Weekend” live for the firs time on TV. The song was released on September 26, written by SZA and Cody Fayne, while Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, and Danja were also credited as the song samples "Set the Mood (Prelude)/Until the End of Time" from the 2006 album "FutureSex/LoveSounds".
"Love Galore" was released in April as the second single from the album, featuring American rapper Travis Scott. It was written by SZA, Travis Scott, Carter Lang, Cody Fayne and Tyran Donaldson. The music video, directed by Nabil, was premiered in the same month.
Before SNL, she performed the song at The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and the 2017 BET Awards. But this time, Travis Scott didn't appear on TV.
She said about the song, "I’m definitely a huge fan of Travis. I think he merges that super-fine line between melody and syncopation and pocket. And I love his pockets, and I love his note choice. He’s just gnarly. He’s perfect."
