- Lorde Performs Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight” on the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge
- New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde covered Phil Collins’ ’80s classic “In The Air Tonight” on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, where she also performed her smash hit song “Green Light”.
“In The Air Tonight” was released by ex-Genesis Phil Collins in 1981 from his sole debut album “Face Value”. It was written by Phil Collins and co-produced by Hugh Padgham. The song reached number two on the UK Singles Chart.
He wrote the song amid the grief he felt after divorcing his first wife Andrea Bertorelli in 1980. In a 2016 interview, he said, “I wrote the lyrics spontaneously. I'm not quite sure what the song is about, but there's a lot of anger, a lot of despair and a lot of frustration."
“Green Light” was released in March 2017 as the lead single from Lorde’s second album “Melodrama”. Lorde co-wrote and co-produced the song with Jack Antonoff, who is best known former indie rock band Fun member.
The song reached No.20 the UK Singles Chart and No.19 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
The new album “Melodrama” is her first LP in four years and debuted at number one in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the United States.
