Christopher Walken's new film “Percy” is set to be released on October 9, 2020. The official trailer was released on September 2nd.
The film is based on true story “Monsanto Canada Inc v Schmeiser”. Directed by Clark Johnson.
Christopher Walken plays as Canada farmer Percy Schmeiser. In addition to Christopher Walken. the film stars Christina Ricci, Zach Braff, Luke Kirby, Adam Beach, Martin Donovan, Roberta Maxwell and Peter Stebbings.
In 1997, Percy Schmeiser found volunteer canola plants and a number of weeds growing along the road in one of his fields after “spring burn” which eliminates weeds prior to planting of the crop.
That potentially meaning they had developed a resistance to chemicals. He kept that canola seed and used it in his fields.
But American agrochemical and agricultural biotechnology corporation Monsanto approached him to pay a "technology use fee" fee for using Monsanto's patented technology without a license. Then the company sued Percy Schmeiserfor patent infringement in 1998.
Ultimately, in a split decision from the Supreme Court, Percy Schmeiserr won a 9–0 ruling that he did not have to pay Monsanto their technology-use fee, damages or costs.
