- Japanese filmmaker Hikari Toriumi Premieres Animated Short Film “Polaris”
- Japanese filmmaker Hikari Toriumi has shared a new animated short film “Polaris”. The film is her fourth year film in the character animation program at Calarts.
The animation style is unique and simple, but still meaningful and elegant. She described the animation on Vimeo, "A young polar bear leaves home for the first time, but finds it difficult to bid her mother farewell."
Heartwarming “Polaris” was directed and animated by Hikari Toriumi. The film features sound design by Collin Miller and music by Lucien ye.
She is currently working on Pixar, where she joined in "Coco", directed by Lee Unkrich in 2016.

"Huge thanks to Collin Miller for doing awesome sound design, and Lucien Ye for an incredible score and for not giving up on me even though it took two years to finish this..., and my lab squads Noor(aka:BG helper) and Rachel for their weird jokes and insults to keep my sanity throughout the crunch time, and to Julian for being the best boyfriend, coloring artist, massager, and best hugging pillow. And lastly, I can’t thank enough my mom Akiko Toriumi for being my mom!!"
